Each has its own function – Important for everyone!
It’s a well-known fact that good nutrition is important for leading a healthy lifestyle. A well balanced diet will provide your body the essential nutrients to support your daily activities. Nutrient absorption takes place in the digestive system (in your intestines).
Types of nutrients
Nutrients can be categorized into proteins (amino acids), fats, carbohydrates (starch and sugars), and a large number of vitamins and minerals. Other components important for a healthy diet are fiber and water.
Macro and micro
Proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are commonly known as macronutrients. Macronutrients are the substances that fuel your body. They are also necessary for building and maintaining your muscles, hormones, organs, enzymes, and blood.
Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA)
The Health Council has set standard recommended daily doses of vitamins and minerals necessary for leading a healthy life. The suggested doses are called the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). Note that some people may require a higher dosage due to not being able to consumer and/or absorb all nutrients.
